The toya is a long stick approximately in the range of 2 m to 2.5 m.

Here the method does involve sliding in the hands to maximize the reach of the weapon and the ability to hit powerfully.  A stick this long needs to be fashioned for the purpose.  Whilst the handwork in wielding the toya is specific to the weapon, the platform of position and movement is constantly applied.  In the syllabus the sticks are gradually introduced beginning with the gada and then tongat and finally toya.  This also equates with the degree of adaption necessary from the empty-handed foundation.
